Join me for an authentic day of rural life in Iran, filled with garden chores, caring for farm animals, traditional cooking, homemade pickles, and the first autumn rain of the season.
My morning began in the garden, where I picked fresh eggplants and peppers. I prepared cabbage leaves, carrots, and beetroots, then washed all the vegetables in the outdoor washing area. After taking care of the chickens, I selected a rooster for our lunch.
Just as I was about to light the outdoor fire, the weather suddenly changed. A strong storm arrived, bringing the first autumn rainfall to our area! I quickly gathered the outdoor items and covered the traditional clay stove to protect it from the rain.
Inside the house, I lit the kerosene lamp, boiled some water, and continued preparing the rooster meat. I cleaned and cut the meat into pieces, then cooked it in a pressure cooker with onions and aromatic spices until it was tender and full of flavor.
While the meat was cooking, I started making a traditional homemade vegetable pickle. I chopped the cabbage leaves, grated the carrots and beetroots, and boiled the eggplants in vinegar until they became soft. When the rain became lighter, I picked fresh parsley, coriander, and dill from the garden, washed them, and chopped them.
I mixed all the vegetables and herbs together, filled glass jars with the homemade pickle, and set them aside for a few days so the flavors could develop and blend together.
Finally, I served the traditional rooster broth with fresh homemade bread and our freshly prepared vegetable pickle. A simple, comforting meal made with patience and ingredients prepared at home.
This is a glimpse of authentic rural and nomadic life in Iran: hard work, traditional food, caring for animals, homemade recipes, garden vegetables, and adapting to the changing weather.
If you enjoy rural life, village cooking, traditional Iranian food, homemade pickles, countryside living, and peaceful everyday moments, stay with me until the end of the video.
I would love to read your comments! When does the first autumn rain arrive in your area? And what traditional food do you enjoy on rainy days?
