Plain City Ohio Mayor Jody Carney on Growth and Small Town Charm | Around Town Ohio

Plain City Mayor Jody Carney sat down with Nathan White and Yoshi for Around Town Ohio, first on Main Street in front of the municipal building and then inside the Clock Tower. Jody became mayor in 2020. She was council president, spending that summer fighting to get the village pool open, when the mayor's seat opened up and the job landed on her. She grew up on a grain and cattle farm in Athens County, bought her first house here in 2008 after the price dropped during the recession, and helped bring the Plain City Farmers Market back in 2009. We get into the Uptown streetscape work, why the flower pots on every corner matter more than you'd think, how annexation really works (the village can't make anyone annex), why your Plain City address might actually be in Jerome or Darby Township, the 2020 census that kept us a village, and the part almost nobody knows: being mayor here is a part time job that pays a stipend. Thinking about moving to Plain City? Listen to what she says at 17:10. Her one ask of new neighbors is to know what you're moving to, because the small town feel is the whole point. Want to get involved? Village council meets the second and fourth Monday of every month at 6:30 p.m. at the municipal building, and meetings stream on YouTube. Download the Plain City app to connect with the village. Around Town Ohio is where Nathan and Yoshi sit down with the people who make our corner of Central Ohio what it is. We both live in Plain City, and this channel is how we tell our town's story. Thinking about buying or selling a home in Plain City or anywhere in Central Ohio?
