Blink-182 is an influential American rock band that was formed in Poway, California, in 1992. The band gained widespread recognition and popularity with their straightforward approach and simple arrangements, playing a pivotal role in the mainstream rise of pop-punk music. The group's current and best-known lineup consists of bassist/vocalist Mark Hoppus, guitarist/vocalist Tom DeLonge, and drummer Travis Barker.
In their early years, Blink-182 independently recorded and toured extensively, including notable appearances on the Warped Tour. Eventually, they signed with MCA Records, leading to their breakthrough success. Their albums "Enema of the State" (1999) and "Take Off Your Pants and Jacket" (2001) achieved international acclaim and commercial success. The band's signature songs, such as "All the Small Things," "Dammit," "I Miss You," and "What's My Age Again?," became hit singles and gained significant airplay on MTV.
Throughout their career, Blink-182 underwent several stylistic shifts. Their untitled album released in 2003 showcased a departure from their earlier sound, exploring more experimental and mature themes. Mark Hoppus is the only member who has remained with the band consistently since its formation. Tom DeLonge left the group twice, with a decade-long gap between his departures, before eventually returning. Founding drummer Scott Raynor was replaced by Travis Barker in 1998, and Barker has remained a core member ever since.
Between 2015 and 2022, Blink-182 included Matt Skiba, the singer/guitarist of Alkaline Trio, as a member. Skiba's addition led to the release of two albums: "California" (2016) and "Nine" (2019). The band embarked on successful tours in support of these albums, further solidifying their reputation as one of the most influential rock acts of their generation.
Blink-182's music has resonated with millions of fans worldwide, and they have sold over 50 million albums globally. In the United States alone, their record sales exceed 15.3 million copies. The band's catchy melodies, energetic performances, and relatable lyrics have made them enduring icons in the pop-punk genre, influencing countless artists and leaving an indelible mark on the music industry.
