Rafa's Revolution A Mothers' Love

PLOT: When Shuriki murdered King Raul and Queen Lucia, the Royal Wizard Alacazar hid the Royal Family in a magical painting and Crown Princess Elena was sealed in a magical amulet. He left to find a way to free her, leaving his young daughter Rafa and his wife behind. During Shuriki’s first parade as the new Queen, Rafa watches in fear while her mother reminds her to keep her head down to not be arrested for the family’s loyalty to the former Royal Family. Shuriki wastes no time, outlawing dancing, music and all the old holidays reminding the people of the time before her takeover. Fearing a challenge to her power, she starts a purge against all wizards, so she is the only one allowed to use magic. Years pass and Rafa’s mother Felicia has died. Rafa has grown in a young woman and falls in love with Tulio. Being mute, he relies on music as a form of self-expression and (not so) silent rebellion. When he is nearly caught playing by the guards, Rafa distracts them, saving him from prison. They bond over their love of music, remembering their childhood in better times. After a while, they marry and Tulio forms an underground rebellion to free Shuriki’s prisoners. But the plan fails and he is arrested. Following her husband, Rafa confronts Shuriki in the throne room. But the Sorceress only enjoys letting everyone suffer, letting the guards kill Tulio in front of Rafa before she can do anything. A few months later Mateo is born and Rafa has to raise him on her own. She has learned a bitter lesson against open rebellion but still tells her son bedtime stories about his grandfather’s quest and the hope that Princess Elena will return one day. Knowing that magic is forbidden, Mateo cannot resist the curiosity when he stumbles upon his Grandfather’s workshop full of magic books. Rafa knows that she will only put her son in danger if she lets him tell her about his secret so she pretends to not know anything about Mateo’s secret studies. She still teaches him the old dances behind closed curtains, not daring to encourage Mateo to further rebellion than he already is involved in. When Sofia arrives on her doorstep, asking about Alakazar, she turns her away in fear, But Mateo overhears the conversation and recognizes the Amulet of Avalor from his mother’s stories. He helps Sofia free Elena from the Amulet and they return home to confront Shuriki. Hearing noises outside, Rafa is afraid that the soldiers have finally come to take Mateo away. But when she rushes outside, she is shocked and overjoyed to find Princess Elena standing before her in the flesh. She gives Mateo the spell to free Elena’s grandparents and sister, revealing that she knew his secret all along. The group is joined by the people of Avalor on their march on the Palace and Rafa confronts Shuriki a second time, taunting her that the spirit of the people was never broken completely. As Elena is crowned Crown Princess, Rafa and Mateo watch joyfully. When Mateo is appointed Royal Wizard, Rafa is his loudest supporter. The years pass and Mateo and Elena’s friendship grows deeper every day as Rafa becomes aware of her son’s love for his best friend. At Elena’s coronation four years later, she is the proudest mother in the room, joyfully watching the unfolding future of Mateo at Elena’s side.
