Turkmenistan's Flag Sounds Insane (Flags as Sounds)

Forty national flags this channel has never played, traced from the real artwork by a pen whose height becomes its pitch — ranked from the least pitch movement to the most. Six flags come out with exactly the same number: Thailand, the Netherlands, Austria, Russia, Colombia and Ukraine. Every one is made of stripes lying down, and a stripe lying down climbs once and falls once, whatever its colours. Stand the same three stripes up — Peru, Nigeria — and the pen moves the note exactly three times as much. Loudness is how far the pen climbs and falls, not how many pieces it draws. Albania (7 pieces), Kiribati (12) and Spain (68) land within 3% of each other, and Sri Lanka's lion, 30 pieces, outplays Haiti's 110. The loudest of the forty is Turkmenistan: 220 pieces, the carpet. The ranking is measured, not chosen: total pitch travel in semitones per second, summed within each piece (a pen lift is silence), computed from the traced outline before a single frame is drawn. The number is on screen for every flag. Every flag is traced from its public-domain rendering on Wikimedia Commons, not redrawn from shapes. The sound is synthesised from the pen's height and the stereo position from the pen's x. Nothing is sampled.
