CURRENT & DEMOTOPOGRAPHY OF BARCELONA | CRAFTWORK 4.0 ALL Artistic Residency

From Exchange to Co-Creation | Barcelona, 5–16 October 2026 What happens when traditional craftsmanship, sustainable materials and contemporary artistic practices come together? As part of CRAFTWORK 4.0 ALL and NEB & Inclusió, an initiative aligned with the values of the New European Bauhaus, ESPRONCEDA – Institute of Art & Culture hosted a two-week international artistic residency in Barcelona, bringing together four emerging artists to explore new possibilities for craftsmanship, material experimentation and interdisciplinary collaboration. Working in pairs, the artists developed two original installations: CURRENT | Paola Idrontino × Kristina Miltcheva An immersive textile installation inspired by marine ecosystems and imagined futuristic environments. Using recycled and second-hand fabrics, hand and machine stitching, sculptural textile techniques, light and sound, the artists transformed materials into organic forms, exploring the relationship between craftsmanship, sustainability and contemporary artistic expression. DEMOTOPOGRAPHY OF BARCELONA | Jade Nijman × Bruno Rodrigues Martins A handcrafted textile cartography exploring Barcelona's urban identity and transformation. Combining textiles with locally collected soil, sand, brick fragments and pigments, the artists created a tactile representation of the city, complemented by digital mapping and soundscapes reflecting tourism, population and urban change. Throughout the residency, the artists exchanged techniques, experimented with materials and developed their projects with the support of ESPRONCEDA's creative and technical team. Both installations were presented to the public on 15 October 2026 at ESPRONCEDA, celebrating the power of co-creation and the dialogue between traditional craft techniques and digital innovation. This residency reflects the shared commitment of CRAFTWORK 4.0 ALL, NEB & Inclusió and the New European Bauhaus to promoting sustainability, creativity, inclusion and new opportunities for emerging artists and craft professionals. Amb el suport de l'equip d'ESPRONCEDA i l'assessorament tèxtil de Miré Garcia, els artistes van experimentar amb materials i tècniques, compartint coneixements i processos creatius. Les dues instal·lacions es van presentar públicament el 15 d'octubre de 2026 a ESPRONCEDA, celebrant la cocreació, l'artesania sostenible i la innovació artística.
