Dog socialization isn’t about letting your dog meet every dog, person, child, or distraction they see. In fact, one of the most valuable things you can teach your dog is how to notice what’s happening around them — and simply carry on. Good socialization is about helping your dog become calm, confident, and capable in the real world. That means learning how to: • See other dogs without needing to greet them • Walk past people without pulling toward them • Experience new sights, sounds, surfaces, and environments • Stay connected to you around distractions • Learn that not everything in the world requires a reaction The goal isn’t to create the most social dog in the neighbourhood. The goal is to create a dog who can comfortably exist in the world with you.
