Billie Holiday at Just Jazz (1948)

This performance catches Lady Day in one of the few recordings showcasing her voice in 1948. Captured in December 1948, a few days after she made her first studio recordings in over a year, Lady appeared at Gene Norman's "Just Jazz" concert at the Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles. She appears with Bobby Tucker at the piano along with Red Norvo's All Stars, who was also sharing the bill. One song, "I Wonder Where Our Love Has Gone," written by Buddy Johnson, was popular at the time and Billie's rendition is beautiful. I wish she would've done a studio recording for it with Tucker.
