The Cabinet Secretary for Interior and National Administration, Kipchumba Murkomen, today presided over the passing-out parade of 705 newly trained National Police Reservists at Magado in Meru County. The CS commended the graduates for completing their training and joining the national security efforts, while also recognising the National Police Reservists who continue to work tirelessly to maintain peace and security across the country. CS Murkomen noted that, for the first time, the National Police Reservists have undergone training together, describing the initiative as an important step towards strengthening the relationships of the communities. He also reaffirmed the Government's commitment to increasing the participation of women in the National Police Reservists,noting the important role played by the women who graduated during the ceremony. He further said the Government will implement recommendations arising from Jukwaa la Usalama as part of broader efforts to improve security across the country. CS Murkomen issued a strong warning to the newly trained reservists against the misuse of firearms, stressing that the weapons entrusted to them must be used to protect communities and not threaten them. He warned that the Government would take action against anyone found misusing firearms for personal benefit, including prosecution in accordance with the law. The reservists were also urged to remain vigilant in their respective areas of deployment and work closely with other security agencies to ensure that criminals are brought to justice. CS Murkomen further cautioned the reservists against incitement and urged them not to allow themselves to be used by politicians for selfish interests. Instead, he called on them to remain committed to serving the nation and protecting their communities. The 11 chiefs who also underwent the training alongside the reservists were specifically tasked with addressing the challenge of illicit alcohol in their respective villages and working with security agencies to safeguard their communities.
