Butterscotch's Temperament Evaluation

Meet Butterscotch 🤍🍬 Male • Cream Collar Peridot’s Penny Candy Collection Butterscotch is such a sweet, polite boy! He showed low human assertiveness during his temperament evaluation, meaning he interacted gently without being pushy or demanding. His confidence, nerve strength, and resilience were all medium. He can engage with new experiences, but when something feels unfamiliar or overwhelming, he may need reassurance and a little time to recover. Butterscotch’s motivation level was high, which should make positive, reward-based training enjoyable and productive. His energy level was also high, so he will need regular play, enrichment, and age-appropriate activity. We unfortunately did not complete the formal touch-tolerance exercise because the tester accidentally skipped it. However, after reviewing how Butterscotch accepted handling and affection throughout the rest of the evaluation, we believe he likely has high touch tolerance. This score is based on our overall observation rather than the designated exercise. Butterscotch’s sight and sound sensitivity were both high. His response was essentially, “Whoa—not cool, dude!” Sudden noises, fast changes, or surprising movements may affect him deeply. His family should introduce new experiences gradually, give him time to process them, and intentionally help him build confidence without forcing him beyond what he can successfully manage. His prey drive was lower than many of his littermates. He showed interest in the toy but did not demonstrate an especially strong need to chase it. This may make him a potentially better match for a family with younger children or smaller animals than a puppy with a very intense chase instinct. However, all puppy interactions with children and smaller pets should still be carefully supervised. Butterscotch displayed a very strong pack drive. Throughout much of his evaluation, he repeatedly returned to the mirror, seemingly wanting to connect with the “other dog.” He genuinely enjoys canine companionship and appears to find both joy and reassurance in being near other dogs. His dog friendliness was neutral with the potential to become more confidently assertive as he matures. He wasn’t inappropriate or overly pushy—he simply seemed very interested in being with another puppy. We believe Butterscotch would do exceptionally well in a home with a friendly, emotionally stable dog. If his family does not currently have another dog, we would strongly encourage them to consider adding a compatible canine companion eventually. Butterscotch is also extremely tender-hearted. He is likely to absorb the emotions around him and may experience another person’s distress almost as if it were his own. Because of this, he may not be the best match for a household with frequent emotional intensity or someone specifically needing a dog to carry significant emotional demands. He will thrive with calm, steady people who can make him feel safe rather than relying on him to regulate their emotions. Overall, Butterscotch is an incredibly sweet, polite, energetic, and tender-hearted boy who truly loves being part of a pack. His ideal family will provide a calm and reassuring home, patient confidence-building, consistent positive training, and preferably the companionship of another well-balanced dog.
