First thing I have to say is any type of training that gets people to exercise is fantastic and in particular when it comes to having a community 🥰 Which is what Hyrox does well However 🤦‍♂️ Most people want to get strong, get cardiovascularly fit and be in “functional” This is where I think Hyrox falls by the wayside and CrossFit style training too. To be as strong and fit as possible you need to separate your cardio and strength work 🏋️‍♀️ If you’re combining them in a circuit you’re fatigued when lifting so you’ll be weaker 😫 You’re also more likely to get injured 🤕 as you’ve just come off the rower or whatever it may be. Even more so when doing Olympic lifting after doing cardio. Complex movements such as Olympic lifting needs to be performed when fresh. Otherwise the risk of seriously hurting yourself is very high. Kevin Ogar a few years back who was high level cross fitter dropped a barbell on his neck when performing a snatch and was left paralysed. Also When doing your conditioning you’ve just been lifting and therefore your times will be worse when rowing, running or using the ski erg The circuits in CrossFit are quite often random. You need to stick to the same movements so you know whether you’re improving or not. It needs to be measurable to know whether you’re progressing Hyrox contains so called functional movements such as sandbag carries and wall balls. ❌ This is not functional ❌ If you want to be functional learn a martial art. Learning a martial art is a skill and being able to protect yourself is functional I’m not sure about you but I don’t thing you can fend off an attacker with a sandbag lunge 💪So how should you design your training ? 💪 1.You must separate your cardio and lifting. It can be on the same day but not within a circuit If you perform cardio and lifting on the same day, lift first and then do your conditioning as the lifting takes more coordination and if you’re not switched on or fatigued you’ll quite likely get injured. 2. 🥋 Want to get functional learn a real martial art such as Thai boxing, BJJ, wrestling or boxing. 🥊 3. If you miss the community aspect of Hyrox or CrossFit you’ll get an incredible community from any martial arts club I promise you nothing bonds people better than beating the dog crap out of each other Want to perform at the elite level check out our website at www.bodytransformationlondon.com
