Lilo & Stitch | Movie Review | A Disney Remake That's Surprisingly Great? Lilo & Stitch was a delightful surprise. While expectations were tempered—especially given Disney’s spotty track record with live-action remakes—this adaptation hits far more right notes than wrong. Heartfelt, funny, visually impressive, and emotionally resonant, it successfully captures the spirit of the original animated classic while standing firmly on its own. The film’s emotional core lands well, thanks to strong performances across the board and genuinely impressive visual effects—particularly in the portrayal of Stitch, who blends seamlessly into the real-world setting. The story balances its whimsical sci-fi elements with grounded, relatable family dynamics, resulting in a charming, crowd-pleasing family film. What works especially well is the absence of unnecessary modernization or drastic character overhauls that have plagued other Disney remakes. While the story will be familiar to longtime fans, there’s something refreshing about experiencing it again through this lens—especially for viewers who haven’t revisited the original in years. Even as a vocal critic of Disney’s live-action remake trend, this one earns a respectful nod. Lilo & Stitch is a rare example of a remake that respects its source material while also managing to carve out its own identity. This is bound to be a hit with families and nostalgic fans alike.
