Welcome to my channel! The arrival of the monsoon brings the auspicious month of Shravana, and along with it, one of the most vibrant rituals of the GSB community—Choodi Pooja. It is not just a prayer; it is a celebration of biodiversity, gratitude toward nature, and deep family ties. In the GSB tradition, married women perform this pooja every Friday and Sunday. The heart of this ritual is the Choodi—a miniature, fragrant bouquet tied with banana fiber or thread. The primary ingredient is sacred Durva (Garike / Dirbhaankur), accompanied by seasonal monsoon herbs such as Pach Kanas, Anvali, Majrana-kutt, and wild blooms. Each Choodi uses odd-numbered counts of leaves and stems, embodying simplicity and a direct bond with the earth The Ritual & Exchange After a morning bath and dressing in traditional sarees, women light a lamp before the Tulsi Vrindavan. Water, haldi, kumkum, and naivedya (often Panchakadayi or fruits) are offered. The consecrated Choodis are then placed before the deities, at the threshold, and offered to Tulsi. What makes this day truly special is what follows: women visit the elders of the house and the neighborhood, offering them a Choodi along with betel leaves and areca nut (veedo). In return, they touch the elders' feet to receive blessings and tuck a Choodi gracefully into their hair.
