Parichamuttu Kalli is an adaptation and Christianization by the Nasrani of the ancient martial art form of Kerala known as Kalaripayattu. This particular Parichamuttu Kalli song is of Holy King’s Knanaya Church, Piravom. Though in the modern age Parichamuttu Kalli has become a dance done for entertainment, historically it was a form of martial practice done by Syrian Christian soldiers. Historically the Syrians played a major role in the armies of ancient Malabar and were known to be expert marksmen as well as sword and shield warriors.
