This 8-mile bike ride travels through the Cleveland Metroparks Big Creek Reservation along the All Purpose Trail and the Lake to Lake Trail. Lake Abram and Lake Isaac are beautiful natural features that put exclamation points on this bike ride. The 16 miles out-and-back took me around 2.5 hours with stops.
I started at Brookpark Road where the All Purpose Trail begins just west of Big Creek Parkway (across from Walmart). There's car parking nearby at the Fern Hill Picnic Area where you can access the All Purpose Trail as well. Biking south, the ride traveled through forest and parkland. The majority was a quiet stretch through residential areas in Parma Heights and Middleburg Heights.
At the intersection of Fowles Road and Big Creek Parkway, I followed signs for the Lake to Lake Trail. This 2.4-mile path stretches from Fowles Road to Eastland Road and connects Lake Isaac with Lake Abram.
The trail runs through marsh and wetland areas and is very serene. Eventually I saw Southwest General Hospital as I approached Bagley Road. The trail turns left and then crosses Bagley Road. The sidewalk on Hepburn Road connects once again to the Lake to Lake Trail after you pass the movie theatre.
From here the ride goes back through forest and arrives at the Lake Abram Marsh with a long boardwalk and observation platform. A final 1/3mile of trail reaches Eastland Road at which point I turned around and rode back.
When I got back to Fowles Road, I took a right turn at the intersection of Engle and Fowles. The trail continues over a boardwalk and leads quickly to Lake Isaac, a beautiful glacial pothole and waterfowl sanctuary.
When I was finished enjoying the view, I rode the All Purpose Trail back to Brookpark Road.
