United States President Donald Trump has suggested renaming the Strait of Hormuz after himself, reasserting that the waterway is under Washington’s control despite near-daily Iranian attacks on ships in the area. Trump’s suggestion came less than 24 hours after the US struck several targets in Iran, killing at least four people, including two children, at a wedding in the southern city of Sirik.
President Bola Tinubu departed Abuja on Sunday for Europe to begin a three-week annual leave, with London, United Kingdom, as his first port of call. This is according to a statement issued by the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, on Sunday. The statement read in part, “President Bola Ahmed Tinubu will depart Abuja today for Europe to begin a three-week vacation as part of his annual leave. His first stop will be London, United Kingdom.” The President has since travelled.
In the meantime, a United States-based policy advisory and lobbying firm, Von Batten-Montague-York, has alleged that it was offered $3 million to drop the alleged drug trafficking probe of Nigeria’s President Bola Tinubu. The firm, however, said its leader, Dr Von Batten, refused the offers, preserved copies of the exchanges, and contacted members of the ADC presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar’s campaign to determine the nature of the individual’s relationship with President Tinubu.
In a bid to push back on Atiku’s push for the release of drug-related documents involving Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Tinubu’s men have released fresh details about how the FBI raided the Maryland residence of Atiku Abubakar on August 3, 2005. Atiku, who was Nigeria’s Vice President at the time, was investigated as part of a probe into whether US congressman, William Jefferson, made or approved payments to officials in West Africa.
A pro-Tinubu support group, the Renewed Hope for Greater Nigeria (RHGN), has said they are finalising plans to meet the leadership of the Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide to appeal to the Presidential candidate of the NDC, Mr. Peter Obi, to withdraw from the 2027 general election, and join the APC and support President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s re-election bid.
Former Rivers Assembly Chief Whip, Evans Bipi, has revealed how Nyesom Wike allegedly manipulated the 2023 election results in Rivers State. According to Bipi, "we know how we did it. Peter Obi’s Labour Party won everything in 2023, but we changed the results.” This comment has sparked reactions with Netizens trolling the ruling party, and even more reactions following Obi's recent comment at a Town Hall Meeting in Port Harcourt that he is ready to die to protect his votes in 2027.
Yoruba Nation activist Sunday Adeyemo (Sunday Igboho) has charged members of his newly launched Iru Ekun Security Network to show no mercy and eliminate armed bandits and kidnappers found occupying forests across the South-West region and Kwara State. Igboho said this during the inauguration and rollout of Irun Ekun across states like Ondo and Ekiti. He instructed his volunteer operatives to confront and neutralize armed bandits in the forests, alongside any local collaborators or informants regardless of their ethnicity.
Fulani socio-cultural group, Miyetti Allah Kautal Hore, has said it will only support the APC in the 2027 general election if its national president, Bello Bodejo, is released by the State Security Service (SSS). The group made its position known at a press conference where Fulani leaders from across the country were in attendance.
And in a related development, leaders of IPOB have issued a 14-day ultimatum to the Federal Government to release its leader Mazi Nnamdi Kanu or face a total boycott of the 2027 general election in the South East. This adds another layer to the growing threats of violence around the country ahead of the forthcoming general elections.
The campaign organisation of the APC governorship candidate in Oyo State, Senator Sharafadeen Alli, has rejected attempts to portray a video showing him interacting with a student during an interview as sexual or inappropriate. In a statement issued in Ibadan, it described the interpretation of the footage as a deliberate effort to create a scandal around an otherwise ordinary interaction.
