The 2025 Carbon Report highlights the climate crisis and how it is directly increasing costs in the supply chain, as well as intensifying regulatory pressure on companies. As climate policies become stricter in order to ensure alignment with climate goals and plans envisioned in the medium and long term, businesses face greater scrutiny from investors. Failing to respond to climate risks at this point, the report suggests, may lead to higher costs and competitive disadvantages. Moreover, the report focuses particularly on Scope 3 emissions, defined as indirect emissions across the value chain, which remain largely unaddressed despite representing a significant share of total carbon emissions. Reducing these emissions, the authors suggest, should be viewed as a strategic investment. The report concludes with suggestions and recommendations for companies to focus on engaging suppliers, measuring emissions, establishing climate-aligned management, developing transition plans, and allocating budgets for emissions reductions. Despite the currently low rates of adoption, the authors urge companies to be more proactive about this aspect of management.
