From Awkward to Connected: Building the Skills Teens Need to Navigate Their World

For many teens and young adults, learning social skills isn’t the same as being able to use them when it counts. A young person may understand the basics of what to do, but have difficulty applying those skills when meeting someone new, navigating a misunderstanding, interviewing for a job, or figuring out the unwritten rules of a new environment. This webinar introduces parents to Charisma™ Virtual Social Coaching and explores how coached virtual practice can turn into real world skills. Parents will learn about the 9 dynamic strategies from the Wheel of Social Learning that forms the foundation of Charisma's dynamic approach, see what the virtual world looks like and learn how live coaching allows participants to practice, reflect, adjust, and try again. We’ll look at examples involving standing up for themselves (self advocacy), friendships, teamwork, conflict, interviewing, receiving feedback, and networking. Parents will also hear examples success from participants and learn about the research behind Charisma’s development at the UT Dallas Center for BrainHealth. Parents will leave with a better understanding of how structured practice can help teens and young adults build the confidence and flexibility to navigate relationships, school, work, and community life.
