Colorado Produced Water Meeting-Draft Strategic Plan, EPA CDPHE ECMC Presentations, December 1, 2023

At the December 1, 2023 meeting of the Colorado Produced Water Consortium, the Consortium reviewed the draft Strategic Plan, specifically timelines for the first legislative deliverable, to develop guidance documents and case studies to promote best practices for infield reuse and recycling. They also began knowledge building related to the second legislative deliverable, develop recommendations on how state and federal agencies can better coordinate regulatory policies related to produced water. The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Presented on the Water Reuse Action Plan (WRAP), the Underground Injection Control (UIC) program, and the NPDES program (National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System). The Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment (CDPHE) presented the produced water roadmap as it relates to permitting of produced water disposal through injection, and permitting of evaporation pits and centralized waste management facilities. The Energy and Carbon Management Commission (ECMC) presented on rules and regulations specifically 900 series rules and related forms.
