Can a busy, stressed parent still be a secure base for their child? In this episode of The Attachment Panel, Karen Doyle Buckwalter, Dafna Lender, Alexis Greeves, and Tif Junker look at a scene from Richard Linklater's Boyhood (2014). They use attachment theory to talk about rupture and repair, attunement, and the everyday moments that help a child feel seen, protected, and sure their parent is on their side. 🎬 Watch the clip here ➡️ Boyhood - Haircut movie clip:    • Boyhood Scene - Cute girl likes Mason's Ha...   SUBSCRIBE TO OUR CHANNEL:    / @theattachmentpanel   LEARN MORE from these experts: 🟠 Karen Doyle Buckwalter: https://www.karendoylebuckwalter.com/ 🟠 Dafna Lender: https://www.dafnalender.com/ 🟠 Alexis Greeves: https://www.campfirefamilycoaching.com/ 🟠 Tif Junker: https://tifjunker.com/ Boyhood is a one-of-a-kind film, shot over 12 years with the same cast, that follows a boy named Mason from age 6 to 18. In this clip, Mason's stepdad and stepbrother take him for a haircut he didn't want and never agreed to, and they tease him while it happens. The next morning he doesn't want to get out of bed, much less go to school. In the car, his mom finally slows down enough to see how much he's hurting. The panel talks about what she gets right, what she misses, and how small moments like this one add up to a secure relationship, even with a parent who is flawed, overwhelmed, and very human. Whether you're a therapist, parent, stepparent, educator, coach, or simply fascinated by human behavior and relationships, this conversation is an honest look at how secure attachment works in real, messy, everyday family life. The Panel discusses: ➡️ Why secure attachment doesn't require perfect parents. ➡️ What attunement looks like when a child is hurting. ➡️ Why it matters for children to have a voice in the decisions that affect them. ➡️ How rupture and repair happen in everyday moments, even when life is busy and stressful. ➡️ Why a child's honest pushback can be a sign of a secure relationship. ➡️ How small, repeated moments of feeling seen build lasting trust. ➡️ What helps children feel supported as blended families form new relationships. ➡️ Why peers, teachers, and community matter in a child's healing and growth, not only The Attachment Panel brings together attachment experts Karen Doyle Buckwalter, MSW, LCSW, RPT-S™; Dafna Lender, LCSW; Alexis Greeves, LPCC, RPT-S™; and Tif Junker, Coach & Consultant.
