What Was Daily Life Like in Java 1,200 Years Ago?

This is Borobudur, on the island of Java. UNESCO calls it one of the greatest Buddhist monuments in the world. An animated look at everyday life in Java around the time Borobudur was built, about 1,200 years ago, and in the century after. The temple's carved panels show farmers, healers, musicians and sailors in the background of religious stories. Stone and copper inscriptions add villages, temple land grants and feast food lists, and historians piece together how village markets may have worked.
