The tunning comes before all playing and it needs for a Beginner some time, to get it. The best way to learn and to practice is in the Theka of Teentaal (Tabla-Theka of 16 Beats) - allways enjoy your practice and find a way, to do your work in a musical way. So as a Pakhawajplayer we have to learn first the Main Strokes and Handpositions of the Tablaplaying.
