Places to Explore in Paro, Bhutan 🇧🇹 | Punakha to Paro Travel Vlog | ROAM REAL SHOURYA
Join us on a very special day in Bhutan as we celebrate our 1st Marriage Anniversary exploring the scenic, historic valley of Paro! From waking up to misty riverside mountains in Punakha to walking historic suspension bridges, trying on traditional Bhutanese attire, and savouring local flavours, this was the ultimate slow, memorable celebration.
🌿 Today's Journey & Highlights:
Mornings by the River at Punakha: Waking up at Hotel Kingaling & Spa felt surreal—nestled directly between towering Himalayan mountains with the calm river rushing right beside us.
The Scenic Drive via Dochula Pass: After breakfast, we hit the winding mountain roads towards Paro. Passing through the high-altitude Dochula Pass brought back great memories from our previous vlog!
Tachog Lhakhang & Iron Chain Bridge: Our first stop in Paro was the iconic Tachog Monastery viewpoint. The 600-year-old suspension bridge made of iron chains, draped in hundreds of colorful prayer flags with the turquoise Paro Chhu rushing below, is breathtaking. We skipped the steep trek up to keep the day relaxed for our anniversary.
Slow Travel by Paro Chhu River: Instead of rushing between sights, we spent 90 quiet minutes sitting right on the riverbank. We each picked a smooth river pebble as a personal keepsake of our first year of marriage.
Lunch at Paro Biryani House: Craving comfort food, we stopped for some hot, flavourful biryani—Chicken Biryani for me and Veg Biryani for Simmi.
National Museum of Bhutan (Ta Dzong): Perched in an ancient circular watchtower high above the valley, this museum blew us away. The exhibits feature Bhutan's world-famous stamps, traditional Gho and Kira textiles, stone phallus artifacts, and preserved Himalayan wildlife and butterflies. Plus, the panoramic view of Paro International Airport from the grounds lets you watch flights maneuver between the peaks!
Gho & Kira at Paro Fort (Rinpung Dzong): We rented traditional Bhutanese dress—a Gho for me and a Kira for Simmi—to capture our anniversary portraits against the fortress backdrop.
Anniversary Celebration with our Crew: Rather than loud clubs or busy parties, we wrapped up our special day cutting a pie and pastry alongside our guide and driver, sharing sweets and laughs.
Resting Up for the Big Trek: Turning in early tonight because tomorrow is the ultimate Bhutanese adventure: the steep, iconic trek up to Tiger’s Nest (Paro Taktsang)!
