TZIGANE PIANO TRIO: Gillian Findlay - violin Jennie Brown - cello Elizabeth Marcus - piano Elizabeth Marcus, Gillian Findlay and Jennie Brown founded the Tzigane Piano Trio in 1988. They have performed numerous concerts throughout Britain. They have a varied repertoire which encompasses music from baroque times to the present day, and have had several pieces written for them. ELIZABETH MARCUS was born in Brighton; she studied piano at the Guildhall School of Music, where she is now a professor. Elizabeth has one several prizes as a soloist and an accompanist, and performs extensively in the UK. Elizabeth has performed at the Wigmore Hall, Purcell Room, Queen Elizabeth Hall, the Floral Hall at the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden and St. John Smith Square and appeared in concert with Alastair Miles, Janice Watson, Sally Matthews, Robert Hayward and Claire Rutter. She has broadcast on BBC Radio 3 and 4, Classic FM, BBC 2 TV, Channel 4 and French National Radio. She has been official accompanist for the Peter Pears, the Richard Tauber and the Kathleen Ferrier competitions and for masterclasses with Ileana Kotrubas, Guisseppe di Stefano and Sherrill Milnes. She is much in demand as a vocal coach and works regularly with singers such as Sally Matthews, Patricia Bardon and Sir Willard White. GILLIAN FINDLAY was born in Glasgow. At the age of sixteen she won a scholarship to Royal Academy of Music to study with Trevor Williams. There she won many prizes; subsequent awards enabled her to study with Franco Gulli at Indiana University, USA. When she returned to London, she became the first female member of the London Symphony Orchestra, where she played for ten years. In 1981, she won the Sascha Lasserson Violin Competition which led to many recitals and concerto performances. Gillian has played in most of the major symphony and chamber orchestras of London and has been invited as a guest to lead many orchestras at home and abroad including the BBC Concert Orchestra, the National Symphony Orchestra, the Ulster Orchestra, the English National Ballet and the Orquestra do Porto. In the recording studio, she has played many film scores such as the original Star Wars "Return of the Jedi", "Superman", "Raiders of the Lost Ark" with composers such as John Williams, George Fenton, Elmer Bernstein and James Horner. On the lighter side, she has played and recorded with performers such as Robbie Williams, Annie Lennox, Sir Paul McCartney and the Three Tenors, Pavarotti, Domingo and Carreras.Gillian is on the professorial staff at Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance in London, teaches at the North East of Scotland Music School and also has a private practice. JENNIE BROWN was born in London into a family of eminent musicians. She studied at the royal academy of music, where she won many prizes. At the age of 21 she was appointed sub-principal in the orchestra at the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden, and subsequently became a member of the London Symphony Orchestra in 1982. Jennie has also appeared as guest principal with many orchestras and she plays with various groups.
