Down In The Mouth Blues - Texas Blues Destroyers

The Texas Blues Destroyers were a duet consisting of Bubber Miley on trumpet and Arthur Ray playing a reed organ. A rather unusual instrumental pairing for a jazz record, but it is quite nice, with Miley's trumpet playing most excellent and Ray's reed organ giving it a kind of crazy mix of church and devil's music feel. They recorded this title Lenox Avenue Shuffle for three labels, Pathé/Perfect, Ajax and Vocalion, all within five days of each other. Recorded in New York on October 7, 1924.
