2026 Honda City facelift | The Perfect Balance of Comfort & Driving Fun

The Honda City has always been one of the most attractive sedans in its segment, and with the facelift, I feel Honda has made the exterior even better. The overall design feels sharper and more premium, while the Obsidian Blue and Black colours look absolutely stunning on this car. In this detailed review, I talk about the Honda City’s design, engine, CVT gearbox, manual gearbox, interiors, rear-seat comfort, suspension, steering and, most importantly, how the car actually feels to drive. The 1.5-litre naturally aspirated i-VTEC petrol engine needs no introduction. It is one of those engines that genuinely loves to rev, with the ability to go all the way up to around 7,000 RPM. The power delivery is extremely linear and predictable, with no turbo lag, making it very easy to drive smoothly while also being fun when you want to push it. The engine also does well in terms of efficiency. If you are looking for a naturally aspirated petrol engine that can deliver consistent performance without compromising too much on fuel efficiency, this is still one of the strongest options in the segment. The CVT gearbox is smooth and relaxed, making it very convenient for everyday driving. However, when you push the car hard, you do get that typical CVT rubber-band or “bubblegum” effect. The manual gearbox, on the other hand, is much more engaging and makes the naturally aspirated engine even more enjoyable to drive. For me, one of the biggest strengths of the Honda City is its overall refinement. The engine is extremely smooth, the power delivery is consistent, and the car gives you a sense of reliability and peace of mind. If you don’t want a turbo-petrol engine and prefer something naturally aspirated, refined and predictable, the City makes a very strong case. The rear seat is another major highlight. If you’re someone who prefers having the car driven by a chauffeur, the City is a very comfortable place to be in. The cushioning is good, the under-thigh support is impressive, and there is plenty of legroom. Overall, the rear seat offers the kind of comfort you’d expect from a proper family sedan. The interiors, however, could have been much better. The overall quality and feel of the cabin are good, but the design doesn’t feel as special as the exterior, and the infotainment screen in particular feels a little like an afterthought. Where the Honda City really impresses me is when you get behind the wheel. The suspension setup is one of the best in the segment. It manages to strike a very good balance between comfort and handling. It isn’t excessively stiff, and you don’t feel every pothole or broken patch of road inside the cabin. At the same time, the car remains composed when you’re driving at higher speeds. The steering is responsive and feels direct, giving you a good amount of control and confidence, especially on the highway. The overall driving experience feels planted, predictable and extremely reassuring. So, if you’re looking for a car with a naturally aspirated engine, don’t want to deal with turbo lag, and prioritise refinement, smoothness, comfort, reliability, efficiency and consistent performance, the Honda City is definitely a car you should consider. It brings all of these qualities together in one package while still being genuinely enjoyable to drive.
