🏀 Just after midnight on July 19, 2010, a 911 call reached the police in Germantown, Tennessee. Nobody was sent. The phone belonged to Lorenzen Wright, the seventh pick of the 1996 NBA draft, taken ahead of Kobe Bryant, a man who earned more than $55 million in the NBA. Nine days later, he was found in a field in southeast Memphis. His life was insured for one million dollars, meant for his six children. Within ten months of the payout, more than $970,000 of it had been spent. The account was left with five dollars and five cents. Three stories were told about what happened to him. One came with a box and a $110,000 deal. One came with three men who came to the house. And one came from a man already serving time in prison, and for years it led nowhere. This documentary tests all three, using court reports and six days of trial coverage. ⏱️ Chapters 0:00 The 911 Call 1:49 The First Story: A Box and a Deal 4:52 Seventh Pick, Ahead of Kobe 6:01 Herb Wright and the Wheelchair 9:33 The Search and the Second Story 11:59 Rookie Years with the Clippers 15:03 Three Offers: $30M, $2M, $42M 17:05 Coming Home to Memphis 18:56 The Vigil and the $6,000 Reward 20:30 The Wright Stuff 23:58 The Coach's Daughter 26:28 Twelve Minutes and the Last Checks 29:13 Five Dollars and Five Cents 32:48 The Third Story and the Lake 36:04 The Plea 38:01 The Trial and the Witness 42:01 Sunday, July 18, 2010 45:34 The Verdict and the Three Stories 48:26 Number 55 in the Rafters He paid for everyone.
