BLUE THUNDER REIGNS SUPREME AT FUJI
Hoshino and Calsonic Nissan Primera Deliver a Masterclass in JTCC Round 17
FUJI SPEEDWAY, JAPAN — The unmistakable roar of high-revving 2.0-liter engines echoed across the foothills of Mount Fuji today, but as the autumn mist cleared over Japan’s most iconic circuit, one sight dominated the horizon: the electric Calsonic Blue of Kazuyoshi Hoshino’s Nissan Primera charging across the line to claim a brilliant victory in Round 17 of the 1994 Japanese Touring Car Championship.
In a inaugural Super Touring era defined by bumper-to-bumper carnage and razor-thin margins, "The Fastest Man in Japan" once again proved why his legend endures. From the drop of the green flag, Hoshino drove with trademark ferocity, wringing every ounce of performance out of the front-wheel-drive #12 Nissan Motorsport entry.
Fuji’s grueling 1.5-kilometer main straight offered plenty of slipstreaming drama, but Hoshino’s mastery on the brakes into Turn 1 kept the chasing pack at bay. As rival BMWs and Toyotas snapped at his rear bumper through the sweeping 100R and technical hairpin sections, the Calsonic Primera remained poised, flicking through the apexes with surgically precise poise.
"When the car is dialed in like this, you don't look in the mirrors—you just attack every single corner," Hoshino said with a grin on the podium, spraying champagne over a roaring crowd of Nissan faithful.
The victory marks a milestone moment for Team Impul and Nissan Motorsport in the hard-fought 1994 season. The battle-tested combination of Hoshino's relentless racecraft and the sharp agility of the Primera proved completely unshakeable under the crisp October sky.
As the sun sets over Fuji Speedway, one thing remains crystal clear: when Kazuyoshi Hoshino is in the zone, the rest of the field is simply playing catch-up.
