BIMOTA - THE EYE OF THE LEGEND - SARO DI BARTOLO'S shots for MASSIMO TAMBURINI. MOTO GALLERY & BIMOTA CLASSIC PARTS
Who is Saro Di Bartolo? He has been affectionately called "the most photographed photographer." This is because, before dedicating himself exclusively to photography, for many years, thanks to his perfect English, he was an interpreter for many VIPs. Celebrities such as Henry Kissinger, heart surgeon Christiaan Barnard, singer Sting, and more. He was the one who assisted President George Bush in a meeting with Mikhail Gorbachev. Di Bartolo has been a photographer for over 50 years. From a young age, he cultivated the study and, since 1969, has been involved professionally, collaborating with companies, public bodies, advertising agencies, editors, tour operators, and more.
Among the first important experiences of his career, already in the 1970s, was his collaboration with what would become the prestigious Bimota motorcycle company, manufacturer of the most sought-after motorcycles in the world. This collaboration continued until the mid-1980s.
Active professionally at the time as both an interpreter and translator and a photographer, always as a freelancer, Di Bartolo collaborated continuously with the nascent Bimota. Whether interpreting or photography in those pioneering years, he was the go-to person for foreign languages: from visits and presences, such as those of British importer David Dixon or Mr. Sato, Suzuki's chief test rider, or riders Randy Mamola and Ray Quincey, in companies or on the track, Di Bartolo was a reliable partner. This also applied to the translation of correspondence, texts, and catalogs.
He has received prestigious awards.
An ambassador for the Besharat Arts Foundation in Atlanta, he formed the "Art in Schools" team with international photographers Simon Lister, David Lazar, and Hartmut Schwarzbach. Together, they spearhead the "Art in Schools" project, promoting photography in schools around the world.
The initiative, sponsored by patron Massoud Besharat, features Di Bartolo's "Beauty of Nature" series on permanent display, alongside photographs by Steve McCurry, in dozens of schools.
His articles and images have appeared in various publications. Among these presences: Airone, BBC History Italia, Bell’Italia, Capital, Crescita Turismo, Dove, Gazzetta dello Sport, Geo Travel Magazine, Hemispheres, I Viaggi, il Resto del Carlino, La Maison/Lifestyle, la Repubblica, Max, Motosprint, Nautica, Qui Touring, Sweet Life, Hellonews, Turismo & Attualità. To celebrate half a century of his photographic career, the Municipality of Rimini and the "Fondazione ISAL Ricerca sul Dolore" honor him with a major solo exhibition: "Saro Di Bartolo Anthology, 50 Years of Photography, 1972-2022". The exhibition, from November 2022 to January 2023, was held at the prestigious Museum of the City of Rimini, where he displayed 601 photos on 30 different themes. Simultaneously, the exhibition "Faces of Innocence" is on display at the "Pinacoteca San Francesco" in the Republic of San Marino. In September 2023, he received a tribute from photography critic and Sorbonne professor Thierry Maindrault, who dedicated a "Triptych" to his entire artistic output. Three installments appeared in "L'Oeil De La Photographie," a prestigious online magazine. In October 2023, he received the coveted international "Rimini Europe in the World" award and in November exhibited in Piacenza in the glorious historical setting of the "Salone Monumentale di Palazzo Gotico" on the occasion of the 33rd FIAF Emilia-Romagna Regional Congress and the "FOTOistanti" event. In 2024, he exhibited in the USA at the Besharat Museum & Gallery in Atlanta. Always attentive to the evolution of the photographic world, since 2024 he has been actively invited to various venues throughout Italy, presenting his innovative presentation on the highly topical topic: "Artificial Intelligence and Photography. True or Fake?" Among his guest speaker appearances, he was present in 2025 at the Academy of Fine Arts in Catania and in 2026 at the "Giuffrida" Civic Art Gallery in Misterbianco, with "Rocce & Granelli."
In addition to the above, he has held over 50 solo and group exhibitions, including with international celebrities such as Mike Goldwater, Tim Fitzharris, and Maestro Vasco Ascolini. Di Bartolo has collaborated with important photographers and has won prestigious international awards and recognitions, including first prize in both the United Airlines International Travel Photography Grand Prize, out of 15,000 photographers from around the world, and in the Lonely Planet "Mondo Passione Senza Fine" competition, out of 3,000 entries. RAI3 dedicates a special segment to him, showcasing his photos during the program "Mediterraneo."
