Thousands of Dried Loofah Gourds Turned Into Luxury Breathable Chair Cushions. Full Factory Process

What happens to thousands of mature loofah gourds after they dry on the vine? Follow their complete transformation inside a massive automated biomaterials factory. The dried gourds are carefully harvested, inspected and transported along gigantic industrial conveyors before their papery outer skins are removed and the dark seeds are separated for future planting. The remaining golden-ivory loofah skeletons are washed, sterilized, dried and classified according to fiber density. Their naturally interconnected networks are opened into flat layers and precisely arranged to create breathable cushion cores with an open center, supportive surfaces and reinforced edges. After a thin bio-based binder is applied, the layered fibers are compression-molded into resilient 50 × 50-centimeter cushion cores. Each core is finished with ventilation channels, protected with a moisture-resistant coating and enclosed inside a premium ivory cover featuring breathable mesh sidewalls. The completed cushions undergo compression, recovery, airflow and durability testing before being installed on modern oak lounge chairs throughout a luxury forest resort.
