SMITE 2: Solo/Mid Night Gets Increasingly Unhinged

Tarkov wasn't calling my name, War Dogs had been kicking my butt, so it was time to go back to an old favorite: SMITE 2. We start the night with an Assault warmup on The Morrigan, which immediately reminds me why playing her requires knowing what basically every other god in the game does. Despite putting up solid damage and picking up a triple kill, the warmup ultimately goes the other team's way. From there, it's back into Conquest and the roles I am much more comfortable with: Solo and Mid. Hercules gets the first real Conquest game of the night, and things go surprisingly well. I build an early lead, rack up kills, and spend most of the game trying to hold things together as the match starts slipping away. Just when it looks like the loss is inevitable, a teammate sneaks into the enemy base and pulls off a ridiculous backdoor victory. The next Solo game puts me on Bellona, where an unexpectedly strong lane opponent keeps things competitive until the enemy team suddenly surrenders. Then we finally get Mid and bring out Anubis. After a rough start and plenty of questionable team decisions, the match turns around, we start winning objectives, and somehow I finish another game on the winning side. Baron Samedi gets a run in Mid afterward, followed by one final Solo match with Cu Chulainn and his new Aspect. That last game ends in perhaps the most SMITE way possible: our team surrenders while I am still trying to figure out why, since we were ahead in several other areas. Along the way, chat gets a crash course in how SMITE works, why mythology made the game an easy obsession for me, the difference between Solo and Mid, why The Morrigan is such a bizarre god to play, and why a shuffled music playlist can completely derail a gaming stream.
