Emory Gamelan Ensemble performs a Wayang Kulit (shadow puppet epic) performance "The Prosperity of Wibisana" in April 2017, an episode from the Ramayana story. Pak Midiyanto is the puppeteer. In scene 4, Rama and his loyal brother Lakshama are still in the forest of Dandaka. Suddenly, the Monkey King Hanoman returns with a strange guest whom he has found wandering in the forest. It is Wibisana. At first Rama thinks he an enemy, because he is the brother of Rahwana (Ravana). But Hanoman informs Rama and Wibisana has left his brother and can help them to defeat the forces of Alangka. Wibisana and Rama must overcome their family rivalry and distrust. In the end, Wibisana sees that prosperity can only come from upholding righteousness (dharma) rather than blindly following custom and family ties. The play ends as Rama renews his ambition to invade Alangka and rescue his kidnapped wife, Sinta.
