Rakytov, SK - Panoramic Views Across the Veľká Fatra Mountains

Rakytov is one of the steeper peaks in the Veľká Fatra Mountains in Slovakia, but reaching the summit comes with a guaranteed WOW effect. The panoramic views are breathtaking and offer a completely different perspective of Slovakia. From the top, you can easily get your bearings and spot some of Slovakia’s iconic mountains, including Kriváň and Veľký Rozsutec. Our hike to Rakytov starts at the mouth of Teplô Valley and follows the yellow hiking trail towards the ridge, where it eventually joins the green trail. Roughly half of the route follows an asphalt road, but then the real climb begins.The surrounding area is also popular with cyclists, with several well-used cycling routes crossing the landscape. POINTS OF INTEREST ALONG THE ROUTE: ▪️ Forester's Lodge before Teplô Valley – A convenient place to park your car or catch a bus at the nearby Teplô crossroads (Rázcestie Teplô). ▪️ Waterfall on the Teplý Potok – A small, approximately 2-metre-high waterfall, although it is somewhat difficult to reach. ▪️ Prielom Teplého Potoka Nature Monument – A fascinating karst area about 180 metres long and 20 metres deep, carved by the stream into Mesozoic limestone and dolomite. The surrounding rocks contain numerous caves, crevices and rock cavities, some of which can be seen from the road. ▪️ "Pod Parohami" Hunting Lodge – A hunting lodge situated beside the road, but unfortunately not open to the public. ▪️ Teplý Potok (Warm Stream) – A pleasant place to cool off along the route. The stream occasionally crosses the trail. Its name comes from the fact that its water did not freeze in winter. ▪️ Limba Mountain Shelter (1,210 m) – An iconic mountain shelter offering beautiful panoramic views and refreshments — a great place to take a break before the final climb. ▪️ Rakytov (1,567 m) – The summit is reached by a steep climb, but the reward is absolutely worth it. The views are, without exaggeration, spectacular and panoramic in every direction. You can see mountains and valleys stretching across a huge part of northern Slovakia.
