We continue our Detroit trip at Greenfield Village, a massive outdoor museum in Dearborn, on eighty acres and featuring dozens of historic buildings, most of them real, moved here piece by piece. Our friend Courtney showed us around for the day. A boyhood farm that gave the world its tires. A lab rebuilt down to the soil to recreate Edison's workshop. And a house that's only been open to the public since this past June, the first new building added to the Village in over forty years. It belonged to Dr. Sullivan and Richie Jean Sherrod Jackson, and in 1965 it became a base of operations during the Selma to Montgomery marches. Dr. King stayed there. Strategy got worked out at the dining room table. It's not a monument. It's somebody's home, and it deserves to be seen as one.
