Opus One (1968) Director: Colin Higgins A humorous play on Hollywood romance conventions and the process of student film critique. Higgins introduces a meta soundtrack of voices critiquing the film overlaying on the footage, with a filmmaker responding to the questions. Bookending the film is the same footage of a couple running into each others' arms on the beach, contrasted with a story of a couple's attempts to get an abortion in the middle of the film. Directed by Colin Higgins, the writer of "Harold and Maude" and writer-director of "9 to 5" and "The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas."
