Why Did Jesus Stay on Earth for 40 Days After Rising From the Dead?

For forty days after rising from the dead, Jesus didn't ascend to heaven. He walked dusty roads, ate breakfast on a beach, and stood in a locked room he had no reason to enter. Scripture calls what he offered "many convincing proofs" (Acts 1:3) — and that phrase, in the original Greek, comes from courtroom language, not devotional writing.
