Criminalizing the Indigenous Language in Pakistan School | Decolonising the Mind | LANGUAGE | Black Skin White Mask | Dr. Faizullah Jan | Dr. Syed Irfan Ashraf Dr. Syed Irfan Ashraf is an academic, journalist, and author serving as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Journalism and Mass Communication at the University of Peshawar. He holds a Ph.D. in Mass Communication and Media Arts from Southern Illinois University, USA, and has an academic background in journalism and American history. His work focuses on conflict reporting, media geopolitics, and the representation of marginalized communities, particularly in Pakistan’s Pashtun regions. Before entering academia, he worked extensively as a field reporter during the post-2006 conflict period and contributed to international media production, including documentary work. He is also an author of the book The Dark Side of News Fixing: The Culture and Political Economy of Global Media in Pakistan and Afghanistan, which critically examines the challenges, exploitation, and political economy of local journalists working within global media systems. Dr. Faizullah Jan is a senior Professor and former Chairman of the Department of Journalism and Mass Communication at the University of Peshawar. He holds a Ph.D. in Communication from American University, Washington, D.C., and specializes in post-colonial studies, political communication, and news practices in conflict zones. With over three decades of experience, Dr. Jan has worked as a senior editor for The Frontier Post, contributed to Dawn Newspaper, and published extensive research on media, extremism, and the psychological impact of conflict reporting on local journalists.
