Sukkot 2026 | The Feast of Tabernacles | God Is Our Dwelling Place
Jewish communities around the world are celebrating Sukkot—the Feast of Booths or Feast of Tabernacles. But what does this ancient biblical feast reveal to Christians today?
Sukkot takes us back to Israel's journey through the wilderness, when God commanded His people to live in temporary booths as a reminder that their ultimate security was not in houses, possessions or human strength. God Himself was their shelter, provider and dwelling place.
In this devotional, we explore some of the beautiful themes woven through Sukkot: shelter, harvest, rejoicing, God's presence, living water and light.
From Israel's temporary shelters in the wilderness, to Solomon's Temple, to “the Word became flesh and dwelt among us” in John 1:14, and finally to Revelation 21 where God's dwelling is with humanity, Sukkot reveals a beautiful biblical theme: God desires to dwell with His people.
But the wilderness is not only where Israel experienced uncertainty. It was also where they experienced the provision and presence of God.
That is also at the heart of Sēṯer—the secret place, the hiding place, the shelter of the Most High.
As Psalm 91 reminds us:
“He who dwells in the secret place of the Most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty.”
So during Sukkot, I invite you to take some time to remember what God has already brought you through, thank Him for the harvest already in your hands, and trust Him for what is still ahead.
Fear imagines a future in which God is absent. But faith remembers that God will be present.
