Khumalo testifies how PKTT disbandment letter landed without warning | Madlanga Commission (RECAP)

Lt Gen Dumisani Khumalo, head of Crime Intelligence, continues his testimony before the commission of inquiry on the disbandment of the Political Killings Task Team (PKTT). In this session he covers: Matlala’s 17 December 2024 High Court bid to recover seized items and the December operations. The 31 December letter that ordered the PKTT disbanded, which he says he never saw officially until 14 January, and was never consulted on Inter-Ministerial Committee minutes from 2018 to 2023, including the September 2023 resolution that the task team should not be dissolved. The 7 January email and 17 January directive from Lt Gen Sibiya and the 27-page report he and the national commissioner sent to the minister, which was never signed. His meetings with the minister in January and March, the handover and return of the dockets, and his claims of retaliation against the team.
