Is salvation just about where you go when you die? John Hawkins says it's far bigger than that. In week three of our Good News series, John looks at the story of Zacchaeus in Luke 19, a hated tax collector who couldn't see Jesus over the crowd until Jesus stopped and invited himself to lunch. When Zacchaeus responds with radical generosity, Jesus makes a surprising announcement: "Today, salvation has come to this house." Not someday. Today. John traces that same theme through Mark 1 and Luke 4, where Jesus announces that the kingdom of God has come near and that Isaiah's ancient promise, good news for the poor, freedom for prisoners, sight for the blind, is being fulfilled right in front of the people listening. Jesus didn't come just to get us into heaven someday. He came to bring heaven into our everyday lives right now, healing, freeing, and restoring wherever his kingdom breaks through.
