Nikki Angel - Straight From The Heart (1984) #NewWave #SynthPop#ElectroPop

“Straight From The Heart” (1984) turns romantic uncertainty into a game of crossed signals. She studies every word, glance and movement, convinced there is something real between them, yet every time she thinks she understands the message, the frequency seems to change. Instead of asking for grand promises, Nikki wants something much simpler: stop hiding behind mixed signals and tell her what you actually feel. The song cleverly carries its language of communication throughout — warnings, messages, frequencies, signals and unanswered transmissions — while keeping the romance underneath surprisingly vulnerable. Nikki’s cool, almost detached delivery makes that vulnerability even more effective: she sounds determined not to lose control even as it becomes obvious how badly she wants an answer. The combination of sleek electronics, an instantly recognizable recurring hook and restrained female vocals recalls Yazoo, Propaganda, Eurythmics and early Berlin. “Straight From The Heart” is ultimately about that frustrating space between attraction and certainty — when all you need is one clear signal, but the person on the other end keeps changing the message. STRAIGHT FROM THE HEART I try to find a way to decipher you Tuning in to every word you say But you gave me a warning sign When you turned your eyes away I know the way you move around me I think I know that look by now You tell me everything without words But I can't figure out how You keep changing the message Every time I'm close to you I don't need another mystery All I need is something true Straight from the heart Tell me what you wanna do Straight from the heart Is it me or is it you? Don't leave me waiting Somewhere in the dark You gotta decide, baby Straight from the heart Sometimes I think I understand you Sometimes I haven't got a clue One minute everything is easy The next I can't get through to you Maybe we're on different frequencies Maybe we're just out of time But every time I try to walk away ... I catch you on another line You keep changing the message Every time I'm close to you I don't need another mystery All I need is something true Straight from the heart Tell me what you wanna do Straight from the heart Is it me or is it you? Don't leave me waiting Somewhere in the dark You gotta decide, baby Straight from the heart Are you receiving me? Can you hear me now? I know you're out there somewhere Just tell me how Straight from the heart Tell me what you wanna do Straight from the heart Is it me or is it you? Don't leave me waiting Somewhere in the dark You gotta decide, baby Straight from the heart (Send a signal) Send a signal (Send a signal) Straight to my heart (Send a signal) Don't keep me waiting In the dark Send a signal...
