Pennsylvania Turnpike - Exiting at Harrisburg East (I-283)

The Harrisburg East interchange is one of four exits the Pennsylvania Turnpike has servicing Harrisburg. From west to east, these exits are the Carlisle Interchange (226) for Carlisle and an indirect connection to I-81, the Gettysburg Pike Interchange (236) for US 15 to Gettysburg and Mechanicsburg, the Harrisburg West Interchange (242) for I-83, and the Harrisburg East Interchange (247). Harrisburg East is the interchange to get off at if traveling to Lancaster, Hershey, Harrisburg International Airport, or most destinations on the east side of the Susquehanna River. This clip begins as I approach the western end of the long six lane bridge that carries the turnpike across the Susquehanna and Amtrak's Keystone Corridor, then exit the turnpike and pass through the toll plaza to join I-283. Past the toll plaza is an interchange for getting on PA 283 to travel east towards Lancaster, or to exit to surface streets in Highspire. This is also the exit that serves the Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission headquarters.
