HAMM Smart Compact PRO: Automatic Asphalt Compaction Using the Inline Pave Method (L3161)

HAMM Smart Compact PRO in action: On the L3161 zwischen Olberode und Christerode, Germany, Bickhardt Bau SE is resurfacing a roughly 3.3 km section of the road using the Inline Pave method. The warm mix asphalt is placed at reduced temperatures ranging from 130 to 150°C. This shortens the available window for compaction and the roller crew has less time to achieve the required density. Smart Compact PRO continuously measures the compaction density in real time. Based on these values, the system automatically controls dynamic compaction: The individual compaction passes are activated or deactivated, depending on the degree of compaction achieved. As such, the roller operator no longer has to adjust the passes manually. “Our rollers have to be quicker behind the paving screed and they have to compact the asphalt mix to the required specification faster,” explains Andre Blättner, Site Manager at Bickhardt Bau SE.
