Hurricane Isaias made landfall near Destin, in the Florida Panhandle, on Friday night as a Category 2 storm with 105 mph winds. It was the latest first hurricane of the Atlantic season in the modern satellite era. It peaked at 120 mph in the Gulf before wind shear weakened it.
In this video, I break down what happened, why a post-tropical storm can still be dangerous, and where the flood and tornado threat moves next across Georgia, the Carolinas, and the southern Appalachians. I use National Hurricane Center, Weather Prediction Center, and National Weather Service data, and I’m clear about what the forecast can and can’t tell us.
You’ll also find safety steps for power outages, flash flooding, and tornado watches versus warnings.
