कुमाऊं में बिरुड़ पंचमी की धूम ...The Satu Aathu festival is a vibrant Kumaoni folk festival celebrated in Uttarakhand's mountainous regions, particularly in border areas, on the Saptami (7th) and Ashtami (8th) of Bhadrapada, symbolizing the mythological journey of Goddess Parvati's estrangement from and reconciliation with Lord Shiva. The festival involves the soaking of seven types of grains (Birud) on Birud Panchami, the worship of Gauri and Mahesh, community celebrations with folk songs and dances, and a symbolic departure of Goddess Gauri to her parental home on Saptami and her return to her marital home on Ashtami.
