Join me on an Alport Castles circular walk in the Peak District, starting from the Upper Derwent Valley and heading out into one of the more remote parts of the Dark Peak.
Alport Castles lies in Alport Dale, north of the Snake Pass and a few miles west of the Upper Derwent Valley. This dramatic landscape is famous for its huge landslip, often described as the largest landslip in Britain, which has created the impressive towers and eroded rock faces that give Alport Castles its name.
Unlike many of the surrounding Dark Peak valleys, Alport Dale escaped being flooded to create a reservoir, leaving this wild and remote valley largely untouched.
Our circular walk takes us from the neighbouring Upper Derwent Valley towards Alport Dale and up to the edge of the landslip, where we get to experience the scale of Alport Castles and some fantastic Peak District scenery.
🥾 Walk: Alport Castles Circular
📍 Location: Peak District National Park, Derbyshire
⛰️ Area: Dark Peak / Upper Derwent Valley
🌿 Highlights: Alport Castles, Alport Dale, remote moorland and dramatic rock formations
Come along with me and enjoy another adventure in the Peak District.
Don’t forget to keep exploring!
