Hurricane Polo a Category 5 for the third time

Hurricane Polo continues to throw up surprises, by reaching Category 5 status for the third time off the coast of Mexico this morning. The storm is pulling away from land, but is expected to recurve back to Baja California late this weekend with landfall expected on Monday still as a substantial hurricane. Rainfall from the storm is expected to reach up to 14 inches (350mm) in northern Mexico when Polo arrives, however uncertainty is creeping into the modelling with the potential for the storm to stall near or over the Gulf of California, or over the Baja California Peninsula. No warnings are currently in effect, but preparations should be made in Baja California with winds of up to 100mph possible Monday.
