Diamictite: The Unsorted Sedimentary Deposit

Diamictite is a broad geological term used to describe any nonsorted or poorly sorted terrigenous sedimentary rock that contains a wide range of particle sizes—from microscopic clay and silt up to large pebbles, cobbles, and boulders—all embedded within a fine-grained matrix. Key Characteristics: Composition: It consists of a highly heterogeneous mixture of mineral grains and rock fragments (such as quartz, feldspar, and various lithic fragments) derived from diverse source lithologies. Texture & Appearance: It features a characteristically unstratified, massive, and poorly sorted texture where larger, variable-sized clasts appear to "float" haphazardly within a dense, muddy or silty matrix.
