Iruppu Falls is actually the birthplace of the Lakshmana Tirtha River, a tributary of the mighty Kaveri. The river eventually travels nearly 150 km before joining the Kaveri. According to the Ramayana legend, Lakshmana shot an arrow into the Brahmagiri hills to bring water for Lord Rama, and the spring that emerged became the Lakshmana Tirtha River. That's why the falls are considered sacred and thousands of devotees visit every year. Most visitors see only the waterfall, but very few know that a forest trail beyond the falls leads toward the legendary Brahmagiri range, one of the richest biodiversity zones in the Western Ghats. The road from Piriyapatna to Iruppu passes through landscapes that change dramatically—from farmlands to dense forests, wildlife corridors, mist-covered hills, and coffee country. During monsoon, this route feels more like riding through a rainforest than a highway. 🐘 Keep an eye on the forests around Nagarahole and Kutta.
