👉 THE COMPLETE GUIDE → https://docfederer.com/after-60
The page you saw in the video (Eyes & Vision: what your eyes need at night) comes from Complete Health After 60, part of The Complete Method: 150 remedies filed by what hurts, with the amounts.
THE TRICK I MENTIONED IN THE VIDEO → The Night Jar
Make it once a week and you never have to think about it:
• 1 cup of RAW, unsalted pumpkin seeds (pepitas) + ½ cup of RAW, unsalted sunflower seeds.
• Spread them in a single layer on a baking tray. Oven at 300 °F (150 °C), 12 to 15 minutes, stir halfway.
• Take them out when they start to puff up and smell nutty — lightly golden at most, never dark brown (high heat damages the good fats). No salt, no oil.
• Let them cool completely and keep them in a closed glass jar (1 to 2 weeks in a cool cupboard).
• Separately: a small jar of GROUND flaxseed, kept in the fridge (if it smells like paint, throw it out).
• Every night after dinner, instead of dessert: 2 tablespoons of the mix + 1 teaspoon of ground flax, over a handful of blueberries (not with yogurt). Chew slowly.
• Dentures or hard to chew? Grind your 2 tablespoons for 5 seconds in a coffee grinder and stir the powder into oatmeal, soup or mashed potatoes. Same zinc, no chewing.
THE COUNTDOWN
#5 Sesame — a little zinc, copper and good fat. The tiny seeds pass through unchewed: tahini (sesame paste) is the easy way.
#4 Chia — plant omega-3. The evidence for dry eye is mixed. NEVER eat it dry by the spoonful: soak 1 tablespoon in water or milk for 10–15 minutes.
#3 Flax — even more plant omega-3. Always GROUND (whole flax goes in whole and comes out whole), 1 tablespoon, kept in the fridge, with a glass of water.
#2 Sunflower — about 7 mg of vitamin E per ounce (roughly half a day's needs). Raw or dry roasted, and the bag must say UNSALTED.
#1 Pumpkin seeds — about 2 mg of zinc per ounce (~2 tablespoons). The retina and the layer behind it hold some of the highest zinc levels in the body; zinc helps carry vitamin A to the retina for seeing in dim light. Raw or lightly toasted, no salt, after dinner in place of dessert.
Zinc and vitamin E were part of the AREDS formula (National Eye Institute), which lowered the risk of advanced macular degeneration by about 25% over 5 years in people who ALREADY had the intermediate stage. A handful of seeds is food, not that formula. Seeds support; they do not cure cataracts or reverse macular degeneration.
WHO SHOULD BE CAREFUL
• Supplements only with your doctor: high-dose zinc lowers copper (that's why AREDS adds copper); high-dose vitamin E can add to blood thinners like warfarin. The AREDS formula is for people whose eye doctor says they need it.
• Seed allergy (sesame especially) → skip them.
• Kidney disease with potassium/phosphorus limits → ask your doctor first.
• Watch the salt: salted seeds raise blood pressure, which hurts the tiny vessels of the eye.
EYE WARNING SIGNS — GO TODAY
• Sudden loss of vision, in one eye or both
• A curtain or shadow over part of what you see
• Flashes of light with a sudden shower of new floaters
• A red, painful eye with blurry vision or halos (maybe headache or nausea)
• Sudden double vision
• With weakness on one side, a drooping face or trouble speaking → call 911 (possible stroke)
• Straight lines look wavy or bent → see your eye doctor this week
• After 60: a dilated eye exam once a year (not optional if you have diabetes)
